Before you publish: a short checklist

1. The title says what the post is about, in a few words.
2. The permalink is short and readable (check it before the first publish).
3. There is a featured image, and every picture has an alt text.
4. It is in the right category, with a few tags.
5. The excerpt is written (the first words of the text are used otherwise).
6. You looked at the Preview tab, and read the text once more.
7. The links work: press View or Preview and click them.

Troubleshooting

I published a post, but I cannot see it on the site

• Check its status in the list. A Draft is hidden. A Scheduled post waits for its date: open it and look at Publish date.
• If the site has several languages, a post is only shown in its own language.
• If you chose a page as the home page (Settings), the latest posts are at /blog, not on the front page.
• Press Ctrl+F5 (⌘⇧R) in your browser. An old copy may be shown.

A page is missing from the menu

The page must be published, have Show in site menu ticked (Pages), and, in a multilingual site, exist in the language you are looking at. A menu with your own design lists pages through the Menu block (Design).

I cannot sign in

• After 3 wrong passwords the account is locked for 15 minutes. Wait, or ask an administrator to set a new password for you (this lifts the lock at once).
• Use Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen (Getting started).
• An administrator may have disabled the account (Users).

I do not receive contact messages by email

Messages are always stored in Messages. To get them by email an administrator has to set the Contact form email and the Outgoing mail in Settings. The line Emailed or Email failed on each message shows whether sending worked.

My design changes are not on the site

Changes in Design stay a draft until you press Publish. The status under the title of the builder says Draft saved · not live yet until then. On a site with several languages check that you are on the tab of the right language. (A layout for one page, made with Design layout, is live as soon as you save it.)

A picture does not upload

The file may be too large (the default limit is 20 MB) or of a type that is not allowed (Media). Reduce a photograph to about 2000 pixels wide before uploading.

I changed something by mistake

• The text of a post or page: open Revisions in the Publish panel and restore an earlier version (Posts).
• A design: ⋯ → Discard unpublished changes (before publishing) or Reset to the default design.
• A deleted post, page, picture or user cannot be brought back, so the CMS asks you to confirm before it deletes anything.

The text looks different on the site than in the editor

Press the Preview tab: it shows exactly what the site will output. The site's own style (fonts, colours, widths) is set in Site style and may differ from the editor's.

How do I link to a PDF or another file?

In the editor select the words that should be the link, press Link (Ctrl+K) and then Choose file…. Pick the file (or Upload it there) and press Apply. A PDF opens on the page in a viewer; tick Open in a new tab if you would rather open it in a new browser tab. See Posts.

The admin shows the wrong language

Choose your language in your profile (Admin language).
